  17. "The Whitewater investigation has broadened its net beyond the Arkansas
  18. business dealings of Bill and Hillary Clinton to include inquiries into
  19. the unsolved murder of Jerry Parks, the former security chief for the
  20. Clinton campaign headquarters who was shot outside Little Rock last year.

  22. "The fact that the Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr is investigating a
  23. murder is likely to cause consternation in Washington, where many still
  24. treat Whitewater as a minor issue. 
  25.  
  26. "Mr Parks, the owner of a Little Rock private security firm, was the
  27. victim of a mob-style hit on Sept 26, 1993. He had long-standing ties to
  28. the late Vince Foster, the White House Deputy Counsel found dead in a
  29. Virginia park last year. Sources close to Mr Starr's investigation team
  30. say testimony has been taken on two occasions from Mr Parks's widow, Jane.

  32. "The Parks family have accused Little Rock Police of orchestrating a
  33. cover-up after the detective on the case was removed. In exclusive
  34. interviews with *The Sunday Telegraph* earlier this year, Mrs Parks said
  35. that her husband has kept sensitive files on Mr Clinton dating back to
  36. 1984. One concerned a series of drug parties allegedly attended by
  37. Governor Clinton. A second stemmed from work undertaken by Mr Parks in
  38. 1987 involving night surveillance of the governor.

  40. "Mrs Parks alleges that the files were stolen in July 1993 in a well
  41. planned burglary that disabled the house's sophisticated alarm system. Mr
  42. Parks was murdered two months later. 
  43.  
  44. "The Whitewater investigations has reached a critical stage. Last week Mr
  45. Starr announced that he had secured guilty please from Webster Hubbell on
  46. felony charges. Mr Hubbell, golfing friend of Mr Clinton when he was
  47. Governor of Arkansas, was a former law partner of Mrs Clinton.

  49. "In a separate development, the *New York Times* reported yesterday that a
  50. second investigation which was looking into gifts accepted by the outgoing
  51. Agriculture Secretary, Mike Espy, has evolved into a full-scale probe of
  52. the Arkansas poultry king, Don Tyson.

  54. "*The Sunday Telegraph* broke the story last October that Tyson was under
  55. investigation in the 1980s by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration
  56. for possible trafficking."
